Is it my imagination, or are meat prices gooing up?

January 4th, 2007 at 02:21 am

I looked at the grocery ads today, and the
"sale" prices of meat seem a lot higher than they were a few months ago.
I used to get bone-in chicken breasts for a dollar a pound, on sale, but now chicken legs and thighs are a dollar a pound , on sale!

Fortunately, an Albertson's store nearby marks meat down quite a bit when it is nearing the "sell by" date.
It is getting harder to stay on a grocery budget.

Actually, it seems like the price on most food has increased in the past few months. I calculated that many of the things I buy at Wal-Mart have increased an average of 12%. I imagine much of it was due to higher fuel prices. I'm not holding my breath waiting for prices to go down now that fuel prices have decreased, however.

I guess we will just have to get creative to keep our food budgets on track.

Hi yes they are going up I noticed it about ayear ago here at first I thought it was the state tax because it changed. Then I decided it was gas prices but the groceries didnt come down with the gas prices.Im going to get back to my couponing--like a mad woman!Im looking into getting a upright freezer because I think meat prices are going to continue to climb.

Yes, I agree about a year ago it shot up. I guess this is where the price books everyone talks about come in handy! Maybe it is time to make one and "coupon like crazy!"

I noticed it a year ago as well, but also there has seemed to be a steady creep on beef, milk, bread, eggs, and cheese and other dairy products in the past couple of months. We can still get cheap chicken here, but our county is a major producer. And most produce isn't bad unless its out of season and coming from Chile.

When you put it like that ("gooing up"), it sounds even less appetizing than ever!

ha ha ha ha to broken arrow's comment. He noticed everything.

You might try Costco; haven't been there lately myself but i do remember getting chicken at .99/lb, but can't remember what part.
